YAPPERS: Would you rather live in the Philippines or abroad

YAPPERS: Would you rather live in the Philippines or abroad?
If you were given the choice where would you rather live the Philippines or any country abroad? For granted some poor people in the Philippines would rather take the opportunity that living abroad might give them. So lets put things in perspective. Suppose you could live the exact same lifestyle with either choice (Philippines or abroad). Suppose you could live in the Philippines owning a house, car, good paying job. And suppose you could live in any country abroad owning a house, car, good paying job, with all of your family members with you. Which situation would you prefer?

Honestly, I would rather live abroad. There are more opportunities for me to further my interests abroad as opposed to in the Philippines. I love the Pilipinas, but to be practical, it's better if I stayed in Canada.
2 :
yea, broad spectrum of answers to come up as usual
3 :
Still Philippines -- That's why I am still here.. This country (call it whatever you like) taught me how to live in a very difficult situation.. No support from the government -- that's why, I can truly say - I achieved what I achieved..
4 :
"abroad" is too general. even with all those conditions met (house, car, good paying, job, all family members), i wouldn't want to live in the US or Canada because i'd get so fat while missing out on things that can't be found elsewhere. i'm also used to the humidity here. it's only Hawaii that almost feels as humid. i'd rather live in a city that suits my lifestyle better and has the same weather. either Singapore, HK, maybe KL. i wouldn't have to deal with driving at the wrong side of the road because commuting is more efficient. of course, it's unrealistic to have all of that in any other city in the world. there's no place like home.

With the above situation, I am more confused of what nationality I would choose?
6 :
Abroad what kind of dumb question is this. You actually think someone is gunna say Philippines unless they are rich and even then they want to go abroad
7 :
I've never lived in another country, but I can imagine it is difficult to adjust to a new life in a strange place far away from home, unless there's a good reason to do so.
8 :
Not in the Philippines. I would much rather live in the Republic of Marikina.
9 :
Well, as the saying goes, be it ever so humble, there's no place like home. Welcome back, arefh4!
10 :
I MOVED MY FAMILY HERE IN NEW YORK BECAUSE I WANT TO GIVE MY KIDS A BETTER FUTURES.THERE IS SO MUCH DISHONESTY IN THE PHILIPPINES THAT I DISLIKE.
11 :
When I retire I want to spend 60 days in the RP and 60 days in the US. The reason I get to the point I want good beef the Australian beef you get sucks. I also want fresh dairy products and I want my drinks served cold. Something most Philippine restaurants don't know about. They think 3 cubes will keep a drink cold. How do you people drink warm soda? It takes 3 lbs of ice to keep 1 lb of an item cold in an ice chest in the RP.
12 :
please do not taake this as an insult. Read the whole thing before you judge what I say: YOU PEOPLE ARE ALL NUTS!!!! I am an American. Yes, yes, a filthy rich American, who has money just growing on a tree in the yard outside my house. I work like a dog, 15 hours a day, 6 days a week, just to exist in America. I save every penny I can, just to escape this place, and hide for a couple weeks in Cebu or Manila. I do that because The Philippines is the most beautiful place on earth. I work so hard, for the privilege of spending 4 or 5 weeks a year in your country, and all you people can think of is leaving? That is crazy. You people live in a beautiful place. Just open your eyes and see it! Maybe it's a little tough in the cities, but a couple hour bus ride will get you out in the country. I pay $1,200 American, and take a 16 hour plane flight just to be where you already are. Why do you think I do that? It's because I like to escape the burden of being in The U.S. When you think the grass is greener on the other side of the ocean, you might be very disappointed when you see it for yourself.

I am a practical person and make it a point to make rational decisions. At the end of the day, it shouldn't matter to me whether I live by the beach or a grimy city, what clothes I wear, the "coolness" level of the people I hang out with, etcetera etcetera. But it is of utmost importance to me that I be adequately able to feed, clothe, continue to educate, shelter and keep myself and my loved ones healthy. As such, my choice, present realities considered, would be "Not the Philippines". Clearly.

understand that a lot of daily use products are imported , therefore cause a lot more than North America, the unemployment rate there is high and the economy is not as healthy . It does not mean there are no opportunity to be have. But you have to do a lot of research before deciding...like environment, eduaction for your kids when you have them later, social safety.....political safety and so on...
2 :
1$=25piso(philipino money)
3 :
If you are an american, it will be easy for you to live here because the value of your money is P51.00 to a $1.00. The standard of living here in Manila is high so it is better for you to live in the province. You must earn something like P50,000 a monnth to live comfortable here. Hhhhmmm...it depends howmany are you in the family. It's hard putting up a business with a limited amount of money. You need something like millions of pesos just to get a Jolibee franchise. I suggest you venture into food business or put up a lending institution.
4 :
it all depends on where you are going to live,my wife lives in,negros oriental, and we could live on p10,000 a week, and that is real comfortable, thats for three of us and including, rent, electric, water, cable, phone, last year we lived in cebu, and it was more expensive, not a great deal, but i recommend living there is a good idea,it really is a wonderful place.
5 :
In Cebu forty to fifty thousand pesos a month should suffice, for just your family unit, but Philippines is very much extended family, and it depends on how much you will help your wife's family. As of close of business Friday 12th May one dollar bought P51.826. Business is a hard one, first you must look around, you don't want a business that you don't enjoy running. Shell velocity = P42.06 litre San Miguel = P43 a litre Large portion French Fries P34
6 :
10,000 pesos a month for simple life here is enough but if you can afford 50,000.pesos a month to live a happy and with all resources here
7 :
Depends on which city you want to live. Manila , the highest cost for your expenses , next would Cebu , then Davao, etc. Starting a business would be easy, but you should check your papers and etc , so that everything would be smooth and running. Opening a business would totally depend to your field of interest, nowadays, internet cafe's , healthcare schools are on the rise
8 :
from where in philippines your future wifey live? it depends in which place you gonna stay. in big cities like Manila well ya gonna spend more bucks. if Cebu not that expenssive. juz average...
9 :
if you make over $1500 a month, you live like kings

Where would you rather live the Philippines or Singapore

Where would you rather live the Philippines or Singapore? Why?
Where would you rather live the Philippines or Singapore? From what I've heard you couldn't have two places that could be completely different from each other. My question to you is what country is better to live in? Which country has happier, friendlier people? Which country has better quality of life? Which country has better job opportunities and economic growth? Which country has hotter girls? (Don't need to answer this one if you don't want to!!) Which country do you think is an overall happier place to be?

Philippines- my friend was born and raised there and Tim Tebow was born there
2 :
Philippines...my relatives are there and the beaches are amazing!
3 :
i think singapore has the friendlier people and they are mostly korean i think the philippines have so many stereotypes and they look like asians im not sure about that one i would choose singapore mostly singapore!
4 :
As i've never been to singapore nor lived in singapore, i can only give my opinion on the philippines.. I love it because its my home country. i have my friends and family here so i'm happy in Philippines. I know i will feel lonely if ever i will be in singapore for a long time and will certainly want to save money and go home whenever i can. My opinion on this might change in case i have my own family and would be settling in Singapore. In terms of better job opportunities/ economic growth and quality of life, i would say singapore. Its a rich country with 30 pesos exchange rate after all. I dont hear lots of singaporean people wanting to come to Philippines to find a job. As for hotter girls, hmm, i'm a girl so I can't really answer this. As for which country has hotter males, i can't answer also because i've never really met any singaporean males at all.
5 :
Even though I'm from the Philippines, I'd rather live in Singapore, because they're VERY clean (I'm a neat freak) and the Philippines is a bit dirty and they have lots of bugs there (I'm scared of bugs). My friend went there over spring break and she hated it. Lol. And Singapore has a better economy. So I'd rather live in Singapore. That's just the type of person I am.
6 :
THOSE TWO COUNTRIES CANNOT COMPARE!!!! Singapore is the best country in every aspect in the Southeast Asia region. If I had choice to live in a Country south of China, It would definitely be Singapore. Philippines would probably be at the end of the list.
7 :
PINAS! (philippines) i live here, thats why.. *wink i dont like singapore, it reminds me of flor contemplacion (im not sure of the surname)
8 :
If I were Philipino, I would choose the Phillipines of course. Otherwise if I don't hate Singapore more than Phillipines, then I would choose Singapore. However, in response to the following questions: Which country has happier, friendlier people? -Phillipines it seems Which country has better quality of life? -Singapore Which country has better job opportunities and economic growth? -Singapore Which country has hotter girls? (Don't need to answer this one if you don't want to!!) -Only a matter of preference Which country do you think is an overall happier place to be? -Depends on you! You would only know if you've been to both places!

Philippines... My home country...

Is it easy for a westerner to live in Philippines and open a small business

Is it easy for a westerner to live in Philippines and open a small business ?
Is it easy for a westerner to live in Philippines and open a small business with his filipina girlfriend ?

opening a business? you might have to go through a lot of red tape, to get your business license. it definitely wont be easy for you.
2 :
Uncertain about the business but it is impossible for you to own the property......unless you are Filipino or at least married to one!
3 :
Probably not easy from a logistics point of view; beaurocracy, red tape, etc. although you could say that about other countries too. but the money you have will definitely go farther than in more developed countries. There's still much to exploit, the market is getting more and more ripe for the picking. They say the government is busy laying down the basics, i.e. infrastructure and better legislation, in order to create a more conducive environment. Now is probably the right time, what with the regional boom, the country is most probably just counting down to lift off.
4 :
Easy to live in the Philippines ? Yes, you can be here on a tourist visa for up to 1 year at a time. Open a business ? Not really unless you trust your girlfriend to handle all the assets and you manage it from a distance. Getting a perminant residency visa is a long process here and too many requirements to list. If you are married the visa process is allot faster and easier. Setting up a corporation ? 60/40 split to the Philippine owned side so you will never have a controlling interest in the business/company. Besides a mountain of red tape. Can it be done ? Sure. Will it be easy ? No way. If it was, you would see allot of foreigners doing it. The only foreigners I know here with sucessful businesses are married to a Philippina and the wifes are the ones running the day to day operations with the foreigner at a distance.
5 :
you can but theres definitely a lot of paper works.
6 :
Yes it is. For westerner - living in the Philippines is a lot simplier compared to other Asian Countries because there is no language barrier, most of Filipinos speak English and our affinity to western/american culture. As to putting up a "small" business it is also easy if this is just a sole proprietorship and it will be name to your Filipina wife/Girlfriend all she need to do is get a Business License in the City/Municipality where it is located and register it in the Bureau of Internal Revenue. It will be entirely different story if it will under your name because it will require some additional papers/documents. You may visit the following site for further info: www.dti.gov.ph www.boi.gov.ph
7 :
I have known a lot of westerner to live and run a business but 100%of them failed and went back here in the US and now renting apartment as they lost their homes
8 :
As long as you got all the requirements its quite easy to set up a business there. But to maintain and run it successfully is another story you have to make sure you got the right idea for a business not just one where anyone could set up for example a retail outlets are easy to set up but only profitable if you run it between yourself and girlfriend. Long hours, lots of red tape, high risk of loosing everything you got.
9 :
Nope..it's not easy...trust me..I've been there.
10 :
It's a lot of paperwork for a foreigner. I would put it all in her name, it would be a lot easier. To live there permanently, you would need to get a multi-entry visa, and in order to get that, you will have to post about $80,000 in the bank, and fill out a lot of paperwork. It is the Philippines official retirement program. Otherwise you would have to enter and leave the Philippines, then enter again every time your visa stamp would expire. Not fun to do it that way.
