Where is the best place to live in the Philippines?
I live in the U.S.A. now but want to go live in the Philippines, but don't know what area or city is better. I want to stay away from the big cities like Manila or Cebu, and away from violent areas. There are lots of foreigners in Dumaguete, you can get a nice 2 bedroom apartment for a 100us a month. There is a new Robinson's mall, near great dive sites at Apo island and Dauin. The enchanted island is 45 minutes away on the fast ferry. Many choices of great resturants. The town of Valencia is on the side of a mountain about 15 minutes from Dumaguete, great views and the air is cooler. I visited Dumaguete while I was in Cebu, returned to Cebu packed all my things and moved to Dumaguete. There are many colleges and universities located here stocked with many many pretty girls. Visit this site www.dumagueteinfo.com

I think Laguna is a great place too because theres a lot of springs and resorts there!

If you want to be away from viloence, dont stay in the cities. Stay in Batanes The north end of the phils, very like paradise. The people are very honest that there are stores without someone watching over it, because the people are kind.

Manila is the capital of the Philippines but depending of what twn or sub city you selct, there are pretty good neighborhoods Manila places to Avoid: 1. Quezon City - bad traffic 2. Downtown Manila and China Town- traffic, pollution Congestion BUT great place to sho[ 3. Novaliches and marikina - the New orleans version of the Philippine, every year during typhoon season it goes underwater...literally Nice Places in Manila to Live 1. Paranaque - BF Homes, Sunvalley and Merville villages ( they are gated communities) are quiet suburban areas, close to everything homey like schools and local super markets. crime rates are low in these areas too 2. Muntinglupa - Ayala Alabang Village 3. Makati- Bel Air and Salcedo Villages are also gated comminities that are close to the business and posh downtown district. Crime rate is low the only con is the traffic since its it very close to the Corporate centers. Outside metro Manila 1. Tagaytay - depending on what sub area you live in and if you dont mind the drive. You are now in the back country, weather is closest to a san diegan weather during fall at night and summer during the day. Pine trees and great view with affordable house plans

I would recommend staying in a place where you know fellow americans. If not then your choice of a place to stay would depend on what you want to do. Are you into beaches? Then Bohol or Davao would be a good choice. Davao City has a very low crime rate. Or would you like to leave nearer Manila and feel safe because the US embassy is just a few hours away? Then your best bet would be Laguna which is only 2 hours away from Manila. I think Binan, Santa Rosa, Laguna or even Carmona Cavite would be a good choice, since there is a lot new developments in that area. There are also a lot of foreigners there and it is relatively safe. A word of advise though - it would be best for your peace of mind to leave in a first class gated subdivision with roving guards since the Philippines is a poor country and there will always be natives there who think that your dollars is the answer to their prayers. If you can afford it rent or buy at areas like Manila Southwoods Golf and country club, Canyon Ranch, Ayala Westgrove, Santa Rosa Estates and the LIkes. A lot of americans do. Those are pretty secure and nice areas. Stay away from Mindanao island which has rebels.

You can start by buying a condo, foreigners are allowed by law to own a unit. If you are lucky, single and willing-marry a Filipina and your options are much wider. However there are pitfalls there so research well. And by conventional wisdom, don't forget not to place your eggs in one basket.Yappers here may give you more advice so stay tuned. Good luck.

Hello Bones As an American, you will be granted a 21 day visa waiver on arrival in the Philippines, so long as you have an onward ticket to another country and 6 months validity in your passport. If you want to stay longer than 21 days, you can arrange an extension. The first extension is for 38 days. After that, extensions can be arranged 2 months at a time until you have been in the Philippines for 16 months. Read more here: http://www.bigjimsphilippinesexperience.com/visas.htm It will be hard to arrange a lease for just 3 months. My suggestion is that you live in a hotel or live in condo style accommodation in a hotel for 3 months. For instance, when I live in Cebu City, I stay in a family room in the Cebu Century Hotel. It is low class but I am happy there. It is P18,000 (about usd $370 on the current exchange rate) per month. For P18,000 I have a 32 square metre (344 square foot) room with; 3 beds, private bathroom, aircon, cable tv with about 60 channels, free local telephone calls, internet and room service until 3am. Some one makes up the room every day. Living at the Cebu Century hotel means not having to worry about any utility bills. I just pay the rent then after that, my only expense is dining and entertainment. Read more here: http://bigjimsphilippinesexperience.com/blog/?p=15 If you want better class accommodation in Cebu City, there are hotels with 1 bedroom condos starting at about usd $500 per month. In the future, when you have a Filipina girlfriend, you could set her up in an apartment and live with her when you are not working. By the way, you may find it so cheap to live in the Philippines that you end up only working a few months of the year and spend the rest of the year relaxing in the Philippines. I hope this helps! Regards; Jim Sibbick

You won't have any problems extending your visa beyond you forst 21 day stay. There are Immigration offices scatterd throughout the Philippines so your not limited to Cebu or Manilla. There are smaller cities like Iloilo or Bacold that both have Bi offices for extensions or you can use a travel agency to get your extension for you for a small fee. As to where to stay like Jim said it's very hard to find someone willing to do only a 90 day lease. Your best bet is staying at a pension house. They are like motel 6's. Private room with aircon, private shower and catv for $350 a month.

No problemo. An American passport will give you entry with a three week visa you can extend for two or more months at a time. Lots of hotels in all price ranges with and without amenities. There are great resorts if you want to spend the money. You can live cheap enough here if that's how you want to live. Plenty of month to month rentals Try Cebu. I love it here.

Find an on-line stock brokerage and open an account. That will require that you deposit a sum of money in the account. From there trade away until it is all gone or your are really rich. In the later case contact me to do your US tax return.

Is it illegal to breed/sell Salmon in the Philippines

Is it illegal to breed/sell Salmon in the Philippines?
or they dont live in tropical waters?

I never heard that salmon would be illegal in the Philippines but salmon like all different trouts love cold water - may be max 16-18 degrees C the Philippines would have plenty of clear mountain creeks or rivers with pure crystal clear water but even in the high mountains way up in the Cordilleras, water is around 20C and more downhill near or at ocean level fresh water is 25-30C or warmer hence it is far too hot in tropical countries for salmon or trouts In the Philippines you could do alternative methods of Tilapia farming instead of pond farming, to Tilapia in open flooded rice fields no food needed, no problems with temperature Tilapia is a tropical fresh water fish - eating anything and everything - mosquito larvae, or any kind of insects of live in rice fields and plants as well In addition Philippine people love Tilapia, hence it is easy to find consumers
2 :
No and you are right they do not thrive in PH waters.
3 :
I didn't know a person could breed with a salmon....anything else yes..doggie, donkey
